National Women in STEM Day

February 11 is National Women in STEM Day. It is a day when we can celebrate girls who are interested in or pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics careers. There are a growing number of STEM jobs needing talented women, so it is important to empower the girls and women in our communities and support them in pursuing their dreams. National Women in STEM Day started in 2015 as designated by the United Nations. Here are ten ideas for celebrating this day with a STEM girl in your life.

1. Learn about a famous female scientist. There are many online resources and videos.

2. Conduct a chemistry experiment using a kit from Amazon or a craft store.

3. Do some online coding.

4. Make a cake and talk about measurement, heat/radiation, cooling, etc.

5. Make a STEM craft. You can find many quick ideas on Pinterest by searching STEM or STEAM crafts.

6. Read a STEM book (see the STEM book recommendation blog post).

7. Watch a STEM movie (see the STEM Movie Night blog post).

8. Put together a Lego set.

9. Interview or job shadow someone in a STEM career.

10. Draw a picture or make a picture collage about career goals.

Use your imagination and have some fun! Then, share your ideas in the comments section blow.
